Description
Introduction Back translation is a practice little studied in translation literature yet surprisingly prevalent in many areas of technical, particularly medical translation. Previous work by this author has studied the relative neglect or even vigorous disparagement of back translation in academic translation literature and among professional bodies (Ozolins 2008). Meanwhile, a substantial number of translators work on large projects where back translation has become a demanded methodology. Medical organisations, led by the WHO, have taken a particular interest in back translation as a quality control approach to achieve precise and comparable transfer of meanings across languages in international health studies.
